Why do some drivers continue to make risky decisions despite knowing better? Why do emotions, attitudes and habits often override knowledge and skill? This Masterclass explores the role of identity in driving behaviour and how the way people see themselves influences the choices they make behind the wheel.
Drawing on research from psychology, behavioural science and driver development, we will examine the relationship between identity, emotions, motives and behaviour. Delegates will discover why traditional approaches often focus on what drivers do, rather than why they do it, and how this can limit long-term behavioural change.
The session will help instructors move beyond fault correction and skills training, enabling deeper conversations that encourage self-awareness, reflection and safer decision-making. Delegates will gain a greater understanding of how identity influences behaviour and how they can use this knowledge to create more thoughtful, responsible and safer drivers.
Whether you work with learners, newly qualified drivers or experienced motorists, this session will provide fresh insight into one of the most influential factors affecting driver behaviour.

Will there be a recording available if I can't attend the day or only part of it?
While we highly recommend attending live for the best interactive experience, we understand that life is busy. A recording will be made available to all registered attendees within 48 hours. You can access this, along with the speaker presentation and your CPD certificate whenever you like.
How do I join the live session on the day?
You will receive a Zoom link via email when signing up, along with a reminder the day before. Simply click the link at 5.55pm to join the waiting room.
Do I need any special software or equipment?
All you need is a reliable internet connection and ideally download the free Zoom application. For the best experience, we recommend joining from a desktop or laptop computer rather than a phone.
Will there be opportunities to ask the experts questions?
Yes! All of our sessions include dedicated Q&A segments where you can submit your questions to the expert via the chat box or by raising your hands to speak.
